Why Danish is more than a school subject for our children
When you move to Denmark with children, you quickly notice how friendly and uncomplicated everyday life is here. Many people speak English, and at the supermarket, at the doctor's or on the playground you get by perfectly well without Danish at first.
That is exactly where the difficulty lies. What is enough for adults is not enough for children. Children do not just want to get by, they want to belong. They want to join in when teams are picked on the sports field. They want to understand the joke everyone else is laughing at. They want to dare to ask at the club whether they can play too.
Later, language also decides which paths are open: an apprenticeship, a secondary school, a part-time job, friendships beyond the German-speaking bubble.
For children to really arrive in Danish life, and for every opportunity to be open to them, they need to be able to communicate in Danish. Not perfectly and not without mistakes, but freely enough to simply start talking.
That is what I am looking for support with
For Kreativgården in Lysabild I am looking for someone who simply speaks Danish with German children aged 6 to 15. No classical lessons, no teaching experience required. It is about talking, playing, reading aloud and being silly together – in Danish.
Whether you are at school, studying or a parent with time and enthusiasm: all that matters is that you enjoy talking with children.
Interested?
Send a short email to hallo@kreativ.schule and we will arrange a time to get to know each other properly.
Do you know someone who might be a good fit? Please pass this on.
I look forward to meeting you.
